This fruit processing unit is located at House Number 48 on the road between Diyungbra and Dihangi. It is a busy stretch of road, and you can’t really miss us if you’re driving through Dima Hasao. We spend a lot of time working with the local fruit. Since we are up in the hills, the fruit is good, but getting it processed and moved is always a challenge. We started Dima Hasao Fruit Processing Unit Producer Company Limited because there was so much fruit going to waste. Now we spend our mornings sorting through what comes in. It gets quite sticky in the unit when we are busy. The smell of oranges or pineapples is everywhere, depending on the season. We aren't a big factory; it's mostly manual work done by people from the nearby villages. The machinery we have is basic, and sometimes it needs a bit of a kick to keep running. We don't spend much time on computers. Most of our records are kept in big ledger books that we fill out by hand. It's a bit loud in the shop when the motors are running, so we usually have to shout to be heard. But we like the work. It keeps the community busy and ensures the fruit doesn't just rot on the ground. We just do our best with what we have each day. It’s a lot of fruit to handle and keeps us moving.
