R D Bricks

You can find R D Bricks at 37/1, B M Road in Periyapatna. We’ve been operating from this same spot for quite some time. It’s right on the main road, so we get a lot of noise from the traffic passing by all day. Our work is pretty straightforward. We take the raw materials, mix them up, and get the bricks ready for the fire. It’s a lot of waiting for things to dry. If the sun is out, we’re happy, but if it’s cloudy, we start worrying about the rain. We have a small group of workers who have been with us for years. They know the routine better than anyone. We don’t have any fancy titles or big meetings. We just meet up in the yard in the morning, have our coffee, and start the work. The yard is usually full of stacks of bricks waiting to be picked up by the local builders. Sometimes the tractors get stuck in the mud if it’s been raining, and we all have to go out and help pull them out. It’s a practical kind of life. We don't use much technology, just the basics to keep things running. Our hands are usually dirty and our boots are worn out, but that’s fine with us. People in Periyapatna know where to find us if they need bricks for a wall or a small house. We just keep doing what we know how to do, one brick at a time, every day until it gets dark.
