Patel Brick Industry

You can find us in Ramapatna Village, not too far from the Mahadeshwara Temple. It’s a quiet area mostly, until the tractors start moving the bricks around the yard. Patel Brick Industry is a local operation through and through. We use the soil from around the Somanahalli post area. Making bricks is a slow process, from mixing the mud to letting them sit in the sun for days on end. We don't use any high-tech machines, just the old ways that have worked for us for a long time. The temple is a good landmark if you’re trying to find the yard for the first time. We get a lot of people from the nearby villages coming by for their small building projects. It’s actually rewarding to see a new house go up and know the bricks came from our ground. It’s a lot of sweating in the sun and making sure the fire in the kiln stays at the right heat. Sometimes we stay late into the night just to keep an eye on things when the fire is hot. We aren't a big corporation, just a group of guys who know how to work with clay. The yard is usually covered in red dust, so don’t wear your best clothes if you come to visit us. We just try to do an honest day's work and provide something the community needs for their buildings. Just pull in when you see the stacks of bricks.
