Doddacombu Tea Factory sits right in the middle of the tea estate up here in Kundhabri. It is a quiet place compared to the cities. You can hear the machines running from a distance when the leaves are being processed. The air always smells a bit like damp earth and fresh greens. We spend a lot of time outdoors checking on how things are growing. It is a lot of hard work and your boots usually end up muddy by the end of the shift. Kundhabri is a small place where news travels fast. We all know each other at the factory. Some of us have been working here since we were young. The weather changes quickly in the hills so we always have to keep an eye on the clouds. When it rains, everything turns a very bright shade of green. We don't have much use for fancy office stuff. We mostly just have our tools and the factory floor. It’s a simple routine. We start early when the mist is still on the ground. By the time the sun goes down, we are usually pretty tired but it’s a good kind of tired. Life at the tea estate is slow but steady. We just focus on the day’s tasks and making sure the factory keeps running. Sometimes we sit outside for a bit during the break just to look at the hills. It’s a quiet life but we like it.
