The office for Welcome Transport Of India is up on the first floor of the Fulchand Maganji Market. If you know Andheri East at all, you know that Revdi Bazar is always a bit of a scramble with all the traders and goods moving around. We have been based here for a long time, right in the middle of all that activity. Dealing with transport in a place like this means you are always on your toes. There are trucks coming and going, and we spend a lot of our time on the phone coordinating with drivers or checking on where a load has reached. The office itself is pretty simple. It is mostly just desks, some chairs for visitors, and stacks of delivery receipts that seem to grow every week. It gets a bit dusty being so close to the market, but that is just part of the job. We started out small and just kept going, year after year. We do not have a big corporate team; it is just a few of us who know the routes and the market well. People come up the stairs to settle their accounts or ask about moving their stuff to another part of the country. It is heavy work and the hours can be long, especially when there are delays on the road. We just try to keep things moving as steadily as possible. There is no air conditioning, just a ceiling fan that clicks, but it works.
