Being on Marine Drive sounds fancy, but our building, the Patan Jain Mandal, is an old one. We are on 'F' Road, right next to the Hindi Vidya Bhavan School. You can smell the salt from the sea if the wind is blowing the right way. Vibgyor Steel & Engg. Co. has been in this building for many years. Our office has high ceilings and old wooden cabinets that have seen better days. We deal with steel and engineering supplies, so things are often heavy and a bit greasy. It’s not a showroom. It’s a place of business where we handle orders and talk to suppliers. The school nearby means there’s a lot of noise when the kids come out, which we’ve grown used to. We don't have a marketing department. We just have a few of us who know the business inside out. Most of our day is spent checking inventories or making calls to the yards. We don't use much technology beyond the basics. We still like using a physical calendar on the wall. The furniture is mismatched, and the floors are a bit worn down from people coming in and out. It’s a real place with real history. We don't try to impress anyone with a polished look. We just do the work that needs doing in this corner of Mumbai. The sea breeze is nice in the evening. We stay busy with the orders.
