Khar West is a busy place, and being here at Mumbai-52 means we are right in the middle of everything. Uttam Galva Steels Ltd. has been operating out of this spot for a good bit of time. You know how Mumbai is, it’s loud and there is always someone honking outside the window. We spend our days dealing with steel shipments and talking to drivers who are usually lost trying to find the right turn. It isn't a glamorous job. There is a lot of dust and the phones never seem to stop ringing once the clock hits ten. We keep our heads down and get the work done because that's what's expected. Some of us have been working here so long we know the tea seller downstairs better than our own neighbors. It’s a cramped space sometimes, but it’s home for the workday. We don’t put on airs or try to look bigger than we are. We just handle the steel side of things for the company. The monsoon season makes everything a bit more difficult with the leaks and the damp air, but we just throw a tarp over things and keep going. If you’re looking for us, we’re just another office in the Khar area trying to stay on top of the schedule. It's a lot of coordination and making sure the numbers match up at the end of the day. There's usually a pile of old newspapers in the corner and a fan that squeaks.
