Our office is in the Viraj Impex House, which is number 47 on P D Mello Road. If you know that area, you know it’s right by the docks and the railway, so it’s always dusty and loud. There are heavy trucks everywhere you look, and the smell of the sea and diesel is always in the air. We do shipping work, and being located here makes sense because we are close to where the action is. The building itself is quite old and has a lot of character, though the stairs can be a bit steep for some of us. Inside, it’s mostly just desks covered in shipping documents and maps. We don’t have fancy decorations on the walls. It’s a practical space for people who aren't afraid of a bit of grime from the road. We spend a lot of time on the phone with the port authorities or trying to find out why a truck is stuck in traffic. It’s a lot of coordination and sometimes it can get a bit stressful when things don't go as planned. We take our breaks at the small tea stall nearby. It’s not a glamorous life, but we like the pace of it. We’ve been at this for a long time, and we know the ins and outs of the local transport better than most people in this city. It is a noisy place, but it feels like home.
