The Coffee Company

The Coffee Company is based at 5, Sukh Sadan, Nadiadwala. The first thing you notice when you walk into the building is the smell of roasted beans, which is probably the best part of working here every day. It’s a small operation, and most of the space is taken up by big bags of green coffee and the roasting equipment that stays hot for hours. We don’t have a big fancy cafe front with sofas; it’s more of a workspace where we get the beans ready for shipping. There’s usually a thin layer of coffee dust on almost everything, and the sound of the grinder is something we’ve all just gotten used to hearing. We spend our time tasting different batches and making sure the roast isn't too dark or too light for what’s needed. It’s just a few of us here, and we usually have a fresh pot of coffee going at all times, which makes sense given what we do. The Nadiadwala area is a bit quiet, which we actually like because it lets us focus. We spend a lot of time talking to the farmers we buy from and then figuring out where the next delivery is going. It’s not a polished business with a lot of strict rules; we just know what needs to be done each morning and we get it done. Sometimes the roaster acts up and we have to spend the afternoon taking it apart.
