We are tucked away at B 140/3 in the Government Colony in Bandra East. Mumbai is a massive city and this location is right where a lot of the city's pulse is. Tata Steel Ltd uses this space for its practical needs. It isn't a flashy office. It’s the kind of place where the ceiling fans hum all day and the desks are covered in folders. We are near the station so there is always a flow of people coming and going. The building has that old government feel to it, which is fine by us. We aren't trying to impress anyone with modern art or expensive furniture. We just focus on the task at hand. Dealing with steel logistics in a place as busy as Mumbai 400 051 takes a lot of patience. You learn to work with what you have. Most of us have been here long enough to know the shortcuts and how to get things done when the system slows down. It is a bit worn around the edges, but that’s because a lot of work happens here. We don't use big words to describe our day. It’s mostly about checking ledgers and making phone calls. We are just a group of people making sure the company's interests in the city are looked after. It’s a solid, predictable way to spend the work week and we are okay with that.
