The office here is at 8/74 Piramal Nagar on S.V. Road in Goregaon West. Being in Mumbai is a lot different than being at the main works in Jamshedpur. The traffic on S.V. Road is constant and you can always hear horns honking outside. Tata Steel Ltd has this spot to keep things moving in the west. It’s a bit cramped sometimes with all the files and the desks pushed together, but we make it work. We aren't some fancy corporate headquarters with a lobby full of marble. It is just a functional space where we handle the Mumbai side of the business. The salt air from the coast makes things feel a bit sticky in the afternoons. We spend our time talking to suppliers and trying to figure out the best way to get through the city traffic. It’s a fast-paced environment but we try to keep it grounded. We don't have time for a lot of flowery language. We just need to know if the shipment is on time and if the paperwork is signed. The people working here are just regular folks who take the local train and deal with the monsoon rains like everyone else. We’ve been in this spot for a while now and we know the local shops and where to get a decent lunch. It is just a regular part of the big machine that makes the steel.
