Surya Children Hospital

Our hospital is right at the junction of S V Road and Dattatraya Road in Santacruz West. Being at such a big intersection means it’s always loud outside. You can hear the traffic and the trains from the station nearby if you listen closely. It’s a busy part of Mumbai and we are right in the middle of it. Inside, it’s a bit different. We have a lot of colorful drawings on the walls because it’s a children’s hospital, though some of them are starting to peel off. The floors are always being mopped because kids tend to drop things or spill their juice. It’s a small space for how many people come in. Sometimes the hallway feels very narrow when there are strollers parked everywhere. We have a lot of filing cabinets stuffed with records and the computers are a bit slow in the mornings. The staff stays busy checking temperatures and weighing babies. It’s not the kind of place where things are quiet or calm. There is usually a lot of talking and the sound of toys being played with in the corner. We get people coming in from all over Santacruz West. The air conditioning works okay, but it struggles a bit in the peak of summer when the waiting room is packed. It’s a hectic place to work, but it’s just our daily life here at the corner of S V Road.
