About Subhalakshmi Dance Class – Art & Craft in Mumbai
We run Subhalakshmi Dance Class out of a space at Borivali Park Street A 2. It’s a quiet enough spot compared to the main roads. The room we use isn’t huge, but it has enough floor space for a group of students to practice their steps. We’ve been here for a while, and the neighborhood knows us. The floor is made of wood, which is better for dancing, even if it creaks a bit in the corners. We don’t have big mirrors everywhere or professional lighting. It’s just a place where people come to learn and practice. Usually, you can hear the music from the street if the windows are open. We keep a few chairs against the wall for parents who want to wait. The walls are a bit plain, maybe a few old photos of past performances here and there. It’s not a corporate studio with a front desk and a receptionist. We handle everything ourselves, from cleaning the floor to picking the music. Borivali can get busy, but our street stays mostly calm. We have students of all ages coming in throughout the week. Sometimes it gets a bit crowded when one class is leaving and the next one is arriving. We just make do with the space we have. It’s more about the movement and the rhythm than having a perfect studio. We usually keep some water bottles in the corner because it gets quite warm during the evening sessions.
