Steel Land Sitting Works

You can find us at Gala No 9, which is part of Flat 43 on Road No 6 in Govandi. We are right opposite the Dal Mukkadar Masjid, so we hear the call to prayer throughout the day, which is quite nice. Our workshop is what they call a gala, so it’s a functional space where we do all the sitting works. It’s usually full of metal frames, tools, and pieces of fabric or leather depending on what we are fixing or making. The road outside can get pretty busy, and sometimes it's hard to find a spot to park a bike. We’ve been in this Govandi neighborhood for a good while, and the people around here are mostly friendly. It’s a hands-on job, so our clothes are usually a bit dusty by the end of the shift. We don't have a fancy showroom or a website with big pictures. If someone wants to see what we do, they just walk into the gala and look at the work in progress. It’s just us and a couple of helpers trying to get the orders finished on time. We don't really have any slogans or anything like that. We just focus on the task at hand and try to stay cool when the weather gets hot inside the workshop. It’s a simple, hardworking life. Most of the time we have the radio playing in the background to keep things lively while we hammer and sew.
