St. Xaviers High School

You can find St. Xaviers High School at 289 Lokmanya Tilak Marg in the Fort area. It’s right in the heart of old Mumbai. The building is one of those big, old stone structures that you see a lot of around here. It’s got high ceilings and those long corridors that seem to go on forever. Because we’re in Fort, the street outside is always noisy. There are cars, buses, and people walking to their offices all day long. We are right in the thick of it. The entrance is usually crowded in the morning with kids coming in from the station. Inside, it feels a bit cooler because of the thick stone walls. We spend our days managing the classes and keeping the old wooden furniture in one piece. It’s a lot of stairs to climb every day. You get used to the sound of the city coming through the windows. It’s not a quiet place by any means. We’ve got generations of families who have come here. Sometimes the old students stop by just to look at the place. We don’t have much room for a big field, but the kids find ways to play. Everything feels very solid and heavy here. We deal with the usual city problems like the rain and the humidity, but the building has seen it all before. It’s just another day for us on Lokmanya Tilak Marg, keeping the doors open and the bells ringing on time. We just keep going, year after year.
