Abhay International School

Our school is situated over in Vikhroli East. It’s one of those parts of Mumbai that is always changing, but we’ve stayed put here. We aren't one of those schools with a massive glass building and a fountain at the entrance. It’s a practical building that serves its purpose well. We have students coming from all over the eastern suburbs. The classrooms have the regular desks and chairs you’d expect. Being an international school, we follow a specific curriculum, but we don't make a big deal about it. We just get on with the teaching. The teachers here are a hardworking bunch who deal with the humidity and the noise of the city just like everyone else. We have a small playground where the kids can get some air during their breaks. It’s not huge, but it’s enough for a game of football or just running around. We don't use glossy photos or scripted lines to talk to parents. Usually, we just meet them in the hallway or the office and talk about how their kids are doing. It’s a very grounded place. We focus on getting the lessons finished and making sure the students are prepared for their exams. There is always some paperwork to do or a classroom that needs a bit of fixing, but that’s just part of running a school in Mumbai. We’re just a local school doing our thing in Vikhroli East.
