Sonaaj Authentic Desinger Bag is our little spot over in Charkop at A 3 Ghumar Mandi. The designer part of the name might make it sound like we have a big runway and models, but it’s actually just a few of us with some very good sewing machines. Ghumar Mandi is a lively market area, so there’s always something happening outside. We spend most of our time looking at patterns and trying to get the stitching just right on the handbags. We call them authentic because we really do make them ourselves, right here on the table. There are threads of every color imaginable hanging on the wall. Sometimes the power goes out for an hour and we just sit outside and talk to the other shopkeepers until it comes back on. Our bags are meant for everyday use, but we try to add a little bit of style to them so they don't look like everyone else's. The shop is small and can get quite cramped when we have a lot of fabric delivered. We don't have a big marketing team or anything; we just hope that if someone likes their bag, they’ll tell their neighbor about us. It’s a local business through and through. We know most of the people who walk by every day, and that’s the way we like it. The work never really stops but we don't mind.
