Shreeji Metal Works

Shreeji Metal Works is tucked away in the Sony Compound over in Churi Wadi. It’s right opposite Gogate Wadi, off the main Aarey Road in Goregaon East. If you know this area, you know it’s mostly narrow lanes and a lot of small shops doing all kinds of metalwork. Our place is no different. It’s a bit dusty and the floor is always a bit uneven, but it’s where we do all our cutting and welding. The air smells like hot metal most of the time. We’ve been here in Goregaon for quite some time, and we know most of the neighbors in the compound. It’s the kind of place where people shout to be heard over the noise of the grinders. We don't have a proper office; it’s more like a small corner with a table and a couple of chairs where we talk to customers. Sometimes the rain makes things difficult because of the way the yard is set up, but we just work around it. We handle a lot of heavy stuff, so there’s always a bit of heavy lifting involved. It keeps us busy. We don't put much stock in appearances. As long as the machines are running and the metal is getting worked on, we’re doing okay. It’s honest work and it takes up most of our day, from the time we open the shutters until we lock up for the night.
