We work out of a loft on Maulana Azad Road. It’s Plot-244 in the Madanpura area of Mumbai Central. If you’ve ever been around here, you know it’s one of the busiest places in the city. The noise from the street is constant. You have to climb up to the loft, and the stairs are a bit steep and narrow. It’s an old building, so it has that specific Mumbai smell of old wood and rain. Our space is filled with bags and samples because we handle foodstuff. It’s not the kind of place where you’d wear a suit. We usually have our sleeves rolled up. There’s a small window that looks out over the street, but it’s usually too dusty to see much. We spend a lot of time on the phone or writing out orders by hand. The light isn't great in some corners, so we have a few extra lamps sitting around. We aren't some big international firm with a glass building. We are just a local business operating out of a loft. Sometimes we get deliveries late in the evening and we have to move things around to make space. It’s a lot of physical work and staying on top of the paperwork. We like the energy of Madanpura, even if it’s a bit much sometimes. It’s a real place for real work.
