Sanjay Steel Company

Sanjay Steel Company is based at 259, Bazar Gate Street, right inside Shroff Chambers on the second floor. Being in the Fort area means we are surrounded by old architecture and very narrow streets that were never meant for modern trucks. It’s a bit of a climb up to the second floor, especially if we are carrying samples or heavy documents. The office has that old-school feel with high ceilings and heavy wooden doors. We’ve been in Shroff Chambers for years and we know the stairs like the back of our hand. Downstairs on Bazar Gate Street, it’s always a mess of pedestrians and motorcycles. It can be hard to find a place to park, so most people just walk over from the station. We spend our days tracking steel prices and talking to suppliers. The desks are covered in ledgers and various bits of metal samples that we’ve collected over time. It’s not the quietest office because you can hear everything happening on the street below. We don’t have much in the way of decoration, just some old calendars on the walls and maybe a photo from a few years back. Working in Fort gives you a sense of being part of the city’s history, even if we are just dealing with steel. We take our lunch breaks at the small stalls nearby and then get back to the grind until it’s time to lock up. It’s a long day but we enjoy being right in the middle of it.
