Sangeet Upasna Mandir

Our place, Sangeet Upasna Mandir, is tucked away in Jogeshwari East, specifically at 3rd Main, 3rd Cross in New Shyam Nagar. If you know the area, you know it can be a bit of a maze to find us the first time. It’s a small space, but we pack a lot into it. We started this because there weren't many places around here to just sit and learn traditional music without it being too expensive or too formal. It’s a bit noisy outside with the city sounds, but once we get the harmonium going, we don’t notice it as much. We aren’t some big corporation; it’s just a couple of us who know a bit about music and want to pass it on. The rooms are simple, just some fans and mats. Sometimes it gets a little hot in the summer, but we keep the windows open. We don’t have a fancy website or a sales team. Most people just walk in because they live in New Shyam Nagar and heard us practicing. We take things one day at a time, teaching whoever shows up. It’s a very local thing. We know the shopkeepers nearby and the families on our street. It’s not perfect, and the stairs are a bit steep, but it’s where we do our work and we’re happy with that. We just try to keep the music going in our little corner of Jogeshwari.
