Safari Leather Boutique

We have been situated at 92/B Kalakilla for quite a few years now. Most locals know our spot because it is right across from the big Times of India building and the Sales Tax Bhavan in Dharavi. It is a very busy area with constant noise and people moving about. My workshop isn't anything fancy, just a room where we get things done. We focus on leather goods mostly. When you walk in, you will see hides piled in the corner and scraps of leather all over the floor. We do not have a polished showroom with bright lights. It is just us sitting at the benches, cutting and stitching. I started this because I liked working with my hands and leather is a material that actually lasts if you treat it right. We make bags and belts and sometimes custom covers for things. The smell of the tanning is quite strong, but we do not even notice it anymore. We get people from the nearby offices coming in to get a bag strap fixed or to buy a wallet that will not fall apart. I spend a lot of time just sharpening my knives and checking the sewing machines. It gets hot in the afternoons, so we usually have the fan going full blast. We are not a big factory, just a small crew. We open early, have some chai, and start on the day's orders. It is practical work and it keeps us busy from morning till night.
