Mini Shop

Our shop is right across from the ICICI Bank on D N Road. It is a very busy spot at number 259. Like the name says, it really is a mini shop. We don’t have much room to move around once a couple of customers are inside. I spend most of my day standing behind the counter or reaching for things on the top shelves. We have to use a small stool for that. The street outside is always full of people rushing to work or going to the bank. You can hear the buses and taxis honking all day long. It gets quite dusty, so I have to wipe down the glass cases every few hours. We sell a bit of everything that people might need in a hurry. I usually bring my lunch from home and eat it in the small space behind the register. There isn’t really any room for a proper break. My nephew comes by in the evenings to help out when the office crowds start heading home. We have some old tube lights that hum a little bit, but you get used to it. The floor tiles are chipped in a few places from years of people walking in. We don’t have a big sign outside, just the name above the door. It is a straightforward business. We know the people who work in the buildings nearby. They stop in to say hello or buy a small thing. It’s just our daily routine. It’s not much to look at, but it’s our place.
