Sachin Steel Centre

Our shop is at 51/ Kapol Niwas. We are right on 1st Carpenter Street in Mumbai. If you know this part of the city, you know how narrow the lanes are. It is always crowded with carts and people carrying things. We deal in steel at Sachin Steel Centre. It is a small place, but we pack a lot of stock into it. The building is old, like most things in this neighborhood. We have been here for years, and the walls are covered in marks from moving heavy pipes and sheets. It is noisy and dusty most of the time. We don't have air conditioning, just a few old fans that hum while we work. The smell of metal is everywhere. Customers come in through the front door which stays open all day. We know all the other shopkeepers on Carpenter Street. We talk about the weather or the price of goods while we have our chai. It is hard work, especially in the summer heat of Mumbai. We don't use fancy computers for everything; a lot of things are still written down in ledgers. It is a bit chaotic but we know where every single piece of steel is hidden. Sometimes we have to move ten things just to reach one, but that is just part of the daily grind. We are just a local steel shop trying to get through the orders.
