Romer Manufacturing Co

Working out of Shed No 25 and 26 here in Mumbai Central is a bit of a squeeze sometimes. Romer Manufacturing Co has been in this spot at 162 Moullana Az for a good bit now. It’s an old area and these sheds have seen better days, but they keep the rain off the machines and that’s what matters. You can hear the trains from the station nearby if you listen close enough over the sound of the metalwork. It gets really humid under the corrugated roofs in the afternoons. We spend most of our time just managing the workflow and making sure the parts we make are decent enough to go out the door. There is always someone shouting over the noise or a delivery guy trying to find where Shed 25 starts and Shed 26 ends. The neighborhood is constantly moving, so there’s never a quiet moment. We don’t spend much time on decorations or anything like that because the grease and dust would just ruin it anyway. Most of us have been working in these types of shops since we were young. We know the quirks of the old electrical lines and which floorboards are a bit loose. It’s just a practical place for practical work. We eat our lunch out of tiffins while sitting on whatever crates are empty. It isn’t glamorous, but we get the manufacturing done and keep the lights on day after day.
