Down here at 60/66 Bpt Flour in Darukhana, things are always a bit dusty and loud. Mazgaon is known for this kind of work, and we’ve been part of the noise for a long time. Rishab Metal is basically just us surrounded by stacks of iron and different bits of scrap that come in throughout the week. It’s heavy work, and our clothes usually end up covered in grease or rust by lunchtime. We don't spend much time on the computer; it’s mostly about moving pieces around and making sure the weights are correct on the scale. People come in looking for specific sizes or just want to get rid of old junk they don't need anymore. Sometimes the trucks get stuck in the narrow lanes outside, and we have to wait around for things to clear up before we can load anything. It isn't a clean office job with air conditioning, but it’s what we know how to do. The sun gets hot on the metal sheets in the afternoon, so we take our breaks when we can. We just keep track of what’s coming in and what’s going out to the factories. It is a lot of physical labor, lifting and sorting through piles, but that is just the way business works in this part of town. We stay open until the sun goes down and then do it all again the next morning.
