Ratnaguru Stainless International

Ratnaguru Stainless International is located at number 3 in Kanji Khetsi Chawl on Mughbat Lane. If you’ve ever been to this part of town, you know the lanes are very narrow and always crowded with handcarts and people. Our office is quite small, just a room in the chawl where we keep our ledgers and some samples. We deal with stainless steel pipes, sheets, and fittings. Most of our stock is kept in a warehouse nearby because there’s no room for it here. The walls of the office are a bit cracked and the ceiling fan makes a clicking noise, but it’s where we do our business. We spend the day on the phone or shouting to someone across the lane. It’s a very traditional way of working. There’s no air conditioning, so we keep the door open to catch a breeze, even though it brings in all the noise from the street. We drink a lot of cutting chai from the stall downstairs. Dealing with steel means your hands are always a bit dirty. We don't have a big marketing team or fancy brochures. We just talk to the people who come in and try to find what they need in the right size. Sometimes the rain floods the lane a bit, and we have to move things to higher ground. It’s a tough environment, but we’ve been here for years and we know everyone in the lane. It’s a simple life focused on steel.
