If you find yourself on C.P. Tank Road, you will see Dinesh Bhuwan at number 64. That is where Ratnadeep Steel & Engg. Co. is set up. It is one of those older buildings that has seen a lot of history. Our space is filled with various steel components and engineering parts. It’s not the kind of place where you’ll find plush carpets or modern art. Instead, we have heavy wooden shelves that have started to bow under the weight of the inventory. The air smells like oil and cold metal, which is something you get used to after a few days. We spend our time checking measurements and making sure the parts match what people are asking for. The traffic on C.P. Tank Road is always a nightmare, so we hear honking from the street from morning until night. It’s a constant backdrop to our conversations. Sometimes customers come in just to ask for directions, and we help them out before getting back to our steel. We keep a ledger on the main counter that is stained with tea rings from our morning breaks. It’s a practical environment. We don’t have a big marketing department or anyone to write fancy descriptions. We are just here, day in and day out, doing the engineering work that needs to be done. The lights flicker occasionally, but they stay on long enough for us to finish our shifts.
