Raj Rajendra Metal

Khetwadi is a tight squeeze, and 5th Khetwadi Lane is probably one of the narrower parts. Raj Rajendra Metal is on the ground floor of the Laheri Building at number 4. Being on the ground floor is a huge plus because we handle a lot of heavy metal items and moving them up stairs would be a nightmare. The space is pretty packed with inventory. We have sheets and rods of different metals stacked almost to the ceiling in some parts. It leaves just enough room for us to move around and get to our desks. The office part is really just a couple of tables shoved into the corner. It gets quite noisy with the traffic outside and the sound of metal clanging as things get loaded and unloaded. We don't have a lot of privacy, but we don't really need it. Most of our day is spent checking weights and talking to people who walk in from the street. The Laheri Building is an old one, and you can see the history in the walls and the flooring. We get a lot of people coming in for specific pieces, and it’s always a bit of a puzzle to find exactly what they need in the stacks. We drink our tea standing up half the time. It’s a busy, cramped, and loud way to spend the day, but it’s what we know.
