Pratap Steel

You’ll find Pratap Steel at Shop No. 4 in the Hanuman Building over at Khetawadi. It’s right on Kalbadevi Road, which is always a chaotic and crowded place to be during the day. The shop itself is fairly small, but we pack it full of steel stock from floor to ceiling. Every morning starts with opening the heavy iron shutters and clearing the overnight dust off the main counter. Since we are in such a busy market area, there’s always people poking their heads in to ask prices or check if we have a specific rod or sheet in stock. We don’t have much space for a fancy office, so the tiny back section of the shop is where we keep the books and eat our lunch. The street noise outside is constant, with horns and shouting, but you get used to it after a few years. We’ve been here long enough that the local handcart pullers know exactly where to drop our materials. We aren't trying to be the biggest steel sellers in the whole of Mumbai, just a reliable spot where you can get what you need without a big fuss. Sometimes we run out of certain items and have to wait for the next supply truck, and we just tell the customers straight how it is. It’s a very basic business. No frills, no complicated talk, just steel and hard work in the heart of Kalbadevi.
