Popular Tea Co is based at 24 Masjid New Bardane Lane, which is very close to the Masjid Bandar Railway Station. If you have ever been to this area, you know how crowded and loud it gets. Our shop is right in the middle of all that chaos. We deal with various types of tea leaves every single day. The smell of tea is always in the air here, which is something we’ve grown to love. We spend a lot of time moving heavy sacks and sorting through different grades of tea. It is a very hands-on job. The building is old and the lane is narrow, so getting deliveries in and out is always a bit of a struggle. We don't have a fancy showroom with lights and displays. It’s mostly just stacks of bags and a simple counter where we talk to our customers. Most of the people who buy from us have been doing so for years. We know their names and what they like. It’s a community thing. Sometimes the monsoon makes things difficult because we have to keep everything perfectly dry. We don't do anything flashy. We just focus on providing the same tea people have always expected from us. The railway station noise is just something we hear in the background while we work. We open the shutters early in the morning and we don't really stop until it’s time to go home at night.
