Patel Computers

You can find Patel Computers at Shop No 4 in Swami Narayan Nagar. We are over in the Powai Lakshmipura area, which is really close to the main gate of the Indian Institute of Technology. Being near IIT means we see a lot of students and professors. They usually come in because a laptop has stopped working or they need a specific cable that they can’t find anywhere else. The shop is quite small. We have shelves filled with old hard drives, monitors, and boxes of keyboards. It can look like a bit of a mess to someone who doesn't know where things are. I spend most of my day sitting at the back bench with a soldering iron or a screwdriver. There are always parts scattered around. It’s a lot of troubleshooting. Sometimes a fix takes ten minutes, and sometimes I’m scratching my head for three hours trying to figure out why a motherboard died. We don't do much marketing. The students just tell each other about us. We have a small bench outside where people can sit if the shop gets too crowded. Powai has changed a lot since we opened, but our little corner remains pretty much the same. We just fix the machines and try to help people get back to their work. It’s quiet, steady work and that’s how we like it.
