Paawan Steel

Our office is up on the 6th floor at 151 Kumbharwada. It’s a bit of a trek up there, but you get a decent view of the neighborhood roofs. Kumbharwada is an intense place to work. There’s always the sound of metal being worked on and trucks squeezing through narrow lanes. We’ve been in the steel business for a long time. It’s a tough trade. Our space is mostly filled with ledgers and steel samples. We spend a lot of time on the phone negotiating prices. Steel prices go up and down so much it can make your head spin. We have a small team, just a few of us who know the industry inside out. We don’t put on airs. When a customer calls, we give them the straight numbers. If we can get the stock, we say so. If there’s a delay at the mill, we tell them that too. It’s better to be honest than to make promises we can’t keep. The building is old, and the lift is a bit shaky, but it serves its purpose. We drink a lot of chai throughout the day to keep our energy up. Most of the people around here are in the same line of work, so we all know each other. We aren't looking to change the world. We just want to get the steel out to the folks who need it for their projects. It is a living.
