Being in Kakad Market on Kalbadevi Road means things are always moving and it’s rarely quiet. P D Impex is located on the 5th floor, in unit 514 A. If you’ve ever walked through Kalbadevi, you know how crowded the lanes get with people and handcarts. Climbing up to the fifth floor every morning definitely keeps us awake, especially since the old lift is often full or being used for heavy goods. Our office is right in the middle of all that market energy. It’s not a big space, but we have managed to fit everything we need into it. There are stacks of paper everywhere and the phones never seem to stop ringing for long. We deal with a lot of different people throughout the day, from transporters to other traders in the building. It’s a very social way to work, even if it is a bit chaotic at times. The tea man comes around twice a day with cutting chai, which is usually the highlight of our afternoon. We don’t have a fancy lobby or anything like that. You just walk through the door and you’re right in the middle of our workspace. It’s a bit dusty and the walls could use a fresh coat of paint, but it feels like home to us. We’ve been part of this market for years and we wouldn't really know how to work anywhere else.
