Our place is over in Byculla, right at 61 Ajay Apartment on Hansraj Lane. If you know Mumbai, you know Byculla has its own very specific rhythm. It’s crowded and the lanes are narrow, but there is a lot of history in these streets. Our building, Ajay Apartment, is a typical Mumbai residential block. It’s not very new, so it has that lived-in feel with the pipes on the outside and the balconies full of drying clothes. We are at number 16. It’s a bit of a climb if the lift is acting up, which happens now and then. Inside, the space is what you’d expect for a Mumbai office. It’s compact and every inch is used for something. We’ve got our files and computers tucked into corners. Being in Byculla means we are close to the station, which is handy for everyone getting here. The noise from the street—horns honking and people shouting—is just part of the background music for us. We don’t have a big reception area or anything. You just walk in and we’re there working. Sometimes it’s a bit messy with papers, but we know where everything is. Nw is just us doing our thing in a small part of this massive city. It’s a practical spot for a business. We don't spend much time worrying about how the walls look as long as we can get our work finished. It's a busy life here and we stay focused on the day to day chores.
