Nrityanjalie is based over at Cumballa Hill 8. It’s a busy part of town, but once you step inside, it feels a bit more relaxed. We’ve been at this location for a good amount of time, and the building has some character to it. It’s not one of those new glass-and-steel places. The walls are thick and it stays fairly cool even in the summer. I usually arrive around noon to get things set up. There’s always something to do, whether it’s fixing a curtain or sorting out the music player. We don’t have a lot of fancy equipment, just the basics that we need to teach. People in Cumballa Hill seem to like that it’s a bit more old-school. We aren’t trying to impress anyone with big displays. It’s just a place where the focus is on the movement. Sometimes we stay late and you can see the lights from the street. The traffic outside can be noisy, but we just turn the volume up a little. It’s a small operation, and we like it that way. Most of the people who come in have been with us for years. It’s more like a group of friends meeting up than a formal school. We just keep doing what we do every day at number 8. It’s a quiet life mostly, and we enjoy it.
