Our spot is in the Navsariwala Building on S.V.P. Road, which is right across from the Gol Deval Temple. If you know that area, you know how busy it gets with all the people coming for prayers and the general chaos of the street. Norwich Steel & Engineering Co. has been operating out of 178 for a long time. It is a lot of heavy metal and loud noises around here. We deal with engineering stuff and steel, so our clothes usually get a bit dirty by noon. The building itself is one of those old Mumbai structures with high ceilings and narrow stairs. We spend most of our time measuring things or checking the quality of the batches that come in. It is not the kind of place you come to for a comfortable chat, it is more about getting the specs right. The temple bells are a constant sound in the background while we work. We don't have much of a lobby or anything like that. Just some desks and a lot of workspace. Every morning we open up and start going through the list of what needs to be cut or moved. It is honest work and it keeps us busy from Monday to Saturday. Sometimes we lose track of time because there is always another job waiting. That is just how the steel business is for us here.
