You can find N C Cold Drink House over in Malad West, specifically in the Bage Firdosh area. It’s a pretty simple setup. We have a few large refrigerators that are always running, which is the main sound you hear when you walk inside. Since it’s Mumbai, it’s almost always hot, so people are usually looking for something cold to drink. We stock all the usual sodas, juices, and bottled water. The shop isn't very large, and most of the space is taken up by the crates and the cooling units. There are a couple of stools if someone wants to sit for a minute while they finish their drink, but most people just grab what they want and head back out into the heat. We get a lot of people passing through Bage Firdosh, from workers taking a quick break to students coming back from classes. The walls are a bit faded, and we have a small radio that we keep on a low volume in the background. Sometimes we have to deal with power cuts, which is always a headache when you’re trying to keep things cold, but we manage. We’ve been here for a good while, and the routine doesn't change much from day to day. We just make sure the fridge is stocked and the bottles are chilled. It’s a straightforward way to spend the day, and it keeps us busy enough without being too complicated. I usually sweep the front step every afternoon.
