Our place is tucked away in Shivlal Chawl over in Parel. If you know the Bhoiwada area, you know it’s always busy and there’s always something happening on St. Xavier Road. It’s an old part of Mumbai, so the buildings have that lived-in look that tells a long story. We are in room 3/21A. It’s a small space, but it serves us well for what we need to do on a daily basis. Sometimes the rain gets a bit much in July and the narrow lanes get a little muddy, but that’s just life in this part of town. We’ve been operating from here because it’s central and everyone knows how to find us without much trouble. We don’t have any of those modern glass walls or air-conditioned lobbies you see in the new parts of the city. It’s just a regular room where we sit and handle our business. The neighbors are mostly families who have lived here for generations, so it’s a friendly and loud atmosphere. We usually start early before the heat gets too bad for everyone. The tea stall around the corner is where we get our morning kick-start almost every day. It’s not a glamorous setup, but it’s ours and we are comfortable here. We spend our days dealing with files and talking to people who drop by for a quick chat or work. It’s loud, it’s crowded, and it’s definitely not a corporate park, but it works for us. We just keep our heads down and get through the list.
