Mukand Limited, Maharashtra

Down in Kalwa, Navi Mumbai, is where we do most of our heavy lifting. Mukand Limited is a big site, and being in this part of Maharashtra means we have to deal with some pretty intense humidity during the monsoon months. The facility is located in an area that’s been industrial for a long time, so there’s a real sense of history in the metal and the smoke. We have hundreds of people coming through the gates every day, all with their own roles to play in the process. It’s a loud place, full of the sounds of heavy machinery and moving steel. You have to be careful where you walk because there’s always something being moved by a crane or a forklift. We aren't about fancy presentations or shiny office desks. Most of our managers spend more time on the floor than in their chairs. The commute from other parts of Mumbai can be a struggle, so everyone is usually pretty tired when they arrive, but we get the energy going once the shift starts. We’ve got a massive canteen that serves hot food, and it’s probably the heart of the whole place. People sit together and talk about their kids or the latest news while they eat. It’s a gritty, honest kind of workplace where you earn your keep through sweat and focus. We just keep the fires burning and the production moving every single day.
