Mixo Steel

Our shop is right on the ground floor, Shop Number 1, in the Sabst building. We’re in Andheri East, very close to the Ganesh Temple. You can usually hear the bells from the temple during the day, which is a nice break from the sound of traffic. Dealing with steel is a pretty gritty job. Everything is heavy and usually a bit dusty. We don’t wear suits or anything like that. We mostly wear old clothes that we don’t mind getting dirty. The shop isn't very big, so we have to be careful about how we stack things. Sometimes it gets a bit cramped, especially when a new shipment comes in. We spend a lot of our time checking orders and moving metal around. It’s physical work, and by the end of the day, we’re all pretty tired. We don’t have a fancy office with air conditioning in every corner. We just have a couple of fans that keep the air moving. During the monsoon, the dampness gets into everything, but we just deal with it. We’ve been part of this neighborhood for a while. We know the other shopkeepers and the people who walk their dogs past our door every evening. We aren't trying to be anything we’re not. We just supply steel and try to be fair about it. It’s a basic business run by regular people who just want to do a decent job for everyone who comes in.
