Mittal Steel Centre

Operating out of Kurla West, specifically around the 6th Main, 2nd Stage near Kamani, is a loud way to make a living. Mittal Steel Centre is right there at Shop No 5 in Kajupada. If you know the area, you know it’s heavy on the industrial side. There’s always the sound of metal hitting metal or the grind of a saw somewhere nearby. We deal in steel, so our shop is full of heavy items, pipes, and sheets that take a bit of muscle to move around. The dust from the road and the work tends to settle on everything, no matter how much you clean, so we’ve mostly stopped trying to keep things spotless. It’s a rugged environment. We spend our hours measuring, cutting, and loading. The heat in Kurla can be pretty brutal, especially when you’re surrounded by all that metal reflecting the sun, but we just drink our chai and keep moving. We don't have any fancy mission statements or marketing talk. We just sell steel to people who need it for their projects. The shop isn't big, so we have to be smart about how we stack the inventory so nothing falls over. It’s a lot of physical labor and staying on your feet all day. By the time we close up and head home, we’re usually covered in a bit of grime, but that’s just how the job goes. It is what it is, and we just keep at it every day.
