Mhatre & Sons has been around the Carnac Bunder area for quite some time. We are situated in Vypar Bhawan, right on P.D'Mello Road, which is basically the heart of the port activity in Mumbai. You can hear the heavy trucks and the trailers rumbling past the building all day long. Our office at number 6 is a simple place. It’s a family-run kind of thing, and you can tell by the way we do things. It is not corporate at all. We mostly deal with the logistics and the movement of goods through the port. There are old wooden desks and cabinets full of papers that have been there for years. The dust from the road sometimes finds its way inside, so we are always wiping down the tables. We spend a lot of time talking to drivers and people from the docks. It’s a practical job that requires a lot of patience, especially when the traffic on P.D'Mello Road gets backed up for miles. We don’t really have a big staff, just a few of us who know the ropes. Most of our days are spent checking manifests and making sure everything is moving according to the plan. It’s honest work, and we’ve been doing it this way for a long time without much changing in our daily routine.
