If you ever find yourself in Mumbai around Lane No.10, you might stumble across us at Room No. 25. It’s a small space, like most things in this part of the city. We do metal forming, which takes up a lot of room, so things are pretty cramped. We’ve got machines squeezed into every corner. The 400 079 zip code area is always humming with activity, and we’re just one small part of that. It’s sweaty work, especially when the humidity kicks in, but we have a good rhythm going. We don't have a front desk or a lobby. When someone comes by, they usually just talk to whoever is closest to the door. We make all sorts of metal shapes and forms depending on what the customers need that week. Sometimes it’s a big batch of the same thing, other times it’s something odd that takes all day to figure out. We eat our tiffin together in the small gap between the machines. It’s a tight-knit group here. We don’t bother with fancy titles or long meetings. We just look at the drawings, get the metal ready, and start the machines. Mumbai is a tough place to run a shop because of the costs and the space, but we’ve managed to stay in this room for quite a while now. It’s our little corner of the world and we’re just trying to do a decent job for the people who hire us.
