Being in Khetwadi is something else. This area is always buzzing with metal and transport trucks. Mehta Steel Corporation is located right at 34/1 Bhagyoday Nagar in Irani House. We have been in this spot for years. You can hear the sound of steel hitting steel all day long. It is dusty and loud, but that is just how it is when you deal with metal. We are not some big corporate office with glass walls. Our walls are painted old and have marks from moving pipes and sheets around. My father started this, and now we just keep it going. Some days are slow, others we don't even have time to eat lunch. We know the neighbors and the tea stall guy knows exactly how we like our chai. It is a simple setup. We stock different kinds of steel and wait for the fabricators or the builders to come by. The lanes in Khetwadi are narrow, so getting the big trucks in is always a headache. But we manage. We don't use fancy computers for everything; a lot is still written in the big ledger books. If you need some steel and you are in the neighborhood, you just walk in and ask. There is no receptionist or anything. Just us in the back. That is our life here. It is hard work, but it is what we know how to do. We don't claim to be the biggest, just a local shop trying to do the job right every day.
