Our workshop, Mech Engineers, is up in Pirojsha Nagar, Borivali East. We are at unit 201. It’s a space filled with metal scraps, heavy tools, and the smell of oil. It isn't the cleanest place you'll ever visit. We focus on mechanical parts and repairs. Most of the guys here have grease under their fingernails all the time. The work is loud. You have to shout sometimes just to be heard over the grinding. We have some old lathes and drills that have been with us since we started. They aren't new, but they get the job done. The floor is concrete and has seen a lot of wear over the years. We don't have a fancy office for meetings. Usually, we just talk over a clipboard near the workbench. It’s a straightforward way of working. We get a drawing or a part that needs fixing and we figure it out. It takes time and sometimes we get frustrated when things don't fit right. But that’s engineering for you. We don’t spend money on fancy signs or decor. All our stuff is functional. People find us because they need something made or mended. It’s a busy neighborhood and there’s always something going on outside. We just stay focused on the metal. It's what we know. The days are long, but we like the work. At the end of the shift, we just lock up and go home, ready to do it all again. There's a certain rhythm to the noise here that you eventually stop noticing. It's just normal life.
