I’m Md Alam and you can find me at 49/A in the Matunga Labour Camp. This is in Mumbai, specifically the Mumbai 19 area. It’s a crowded place, but that’s just how Mumbai is. There’s always something happening right outside the door. My space isn't big, but it’s where I do everything. I’ve lived in Matunga for a long time, so I’m used to the noise and the people. The labour camp has its own rhythm. It’s not like those fancy parts of the city with the big towers. It’s practical. My day starts early because the city doesn't sleep much. I have my tools and my desk, and that’s about it. People walk by all day long. Sometimes they stop to chat, sometimes they just keep going. I don't have a big sign or a receptionist. If you need me, you just come to 49/A. It’s a bit of a maze if you aren’t from here, but once you find it, it makes sense. I try to keep my things in order, but in a small space, it gets messy fast. I don’t mind. It feels like a real workshop. I do what I can with what I have. It’s a simple life, and the work keeps me busy. Mumbai is a tough city but it’s also full of life. This little spot in the labour camp is my corner of it. It’s where I feel most productive despite the tight space.
