Living and working around Opera House means you get used to the noise and the dust pretty fast. Mahavir Steel Corporation has been right here near the Po Khadia for a long time now. Most of the day is just spent moving heavy pieces around and making sure the counts are right on the delivery notes. It is not fancy work. The air gets thick with that metallic smell and sometimes the heat in the warehouse is enough to make you want to quit early, but there is always another truck coming in. We keep the ledgers on the old wooden desk and the phone rings more than it should. The neighbors are mostly doing the same thing, just trading and moving stock. When the monsoon hits, we have to worry about the rust and getting the tarps over the piles quickly. It is just the way it goes here. You grab a chai from the corner stall when there is a break in the loading. It is mostly about getting the steel from one place to another without losing your mind in the traffic. We don't have a big fancy office with air conditioning everywhere, just enough space to sit and handle the orders. Khadia is a busy spot and being here means we are right in the middle of it all, for better or worse. That is basically the daily life at the corporation, just metal and hard work.
