Mack Steel Co.

Our place is at 1/24 in the Jariwala Building. That is on 1st Khetwadi Lane. It is just around the corner from the other busy streets. Mack Steel Co. has been around this part of town for a while. The building itself is quite old and shows its age, but it’s sturdy. We occupy a small section on the ground floor which makes it easier for moving the steel pieces. There’s no elevator or anything like that, just the old hallways. The air always smells a bit like metal and old stone. We don't have a big staff, just a few of us who know the inventory by heart. We don’t use any complicated systems. Everything is written down in the ledgers. It’s a lot of manual labor, lifting and shifting things to find what a customer needs. Sometimes people get confused between 1st and 2nd lane, but once they find the Jariwala Building, they know they are in the right spot. The light inside isn't the best, so we usually work near the front where the sun comes in through the door. It’s a quiet kind of busy. We don’t go in for big advertisements or anything like that. People just know we are here. We spend our lunch breaks sitting on the crates talking about the news or the weather. It’s a steady life and we aren't planning on moving anytime soon. We just keep the shop open and take it one day at a time.
