Working out of 1 Kurla West in Somasundra Palya means we deal with a lot of noise and heavy stuff all day long. It isn't the cleanest job in the world, and our clothes usually have a few marks on them by the time we head home. The shop floor is mostly covered in bits of metal and the various tools we use to get things sorted. It’s a bit loud when the machines are running, so we usually have to shout a bit to hear each other over the clanging. We’ve been in this part of Kurla for a while now and we know most of the other shop owners around the block. The space isn't huge, so we have to be smart about where we stack the steel pipes and sheets so nobody trips over them. Sometimes the delivery trucks have a hard time getting into the narrow street, which causes a bit of a backup, but everyone around here is used to the chaos. We don't have any fancy office chairs or air conditioning, just a couple of fans that move the air around when it gets too stuffy. Most of our day is spent moving heavy things from one side of the room to the other or checking the weight of the loads. It’s hard work and it makes for long days, but it’s an honest way to make a living and we don’t mind the sweat. It is just the way things are here.
